Song: Teach Me To Fly Don’t Teach Me To Land by April Rain
WRITING INSPIRED BY: SONGS
David does not want to Land
David was our neighbor and a pilot in the military for 20 years. He loved the idea of flying since he was a child. When he was old enough, he joined the Navy and learned to fly planes. After being in the service for twenty years, he retired. Moved back east and signed up to fly commercial planes.
Several weeks ago, he called to check in, and was so excited that he was flying planes and getting paid to do something he really enjoyed. The title of this song exemplifies how David feels about flying.
Substitute the word Fly with another word of your passion and think about that for a moment.
For me that word is “write” as in writer.
I did not know that in 1981, when I started down a path of Information Technology, I would spend 40 years in that field. I was excited about technology, as David was about flying. Over the years, I have learned so much about technology. I have enjoyed the years and am ready for a new direction in my life.
My new directions and experiment are writing.
In 2011 I got this idea in my head about writing, as in being a writer. I have digitally collected thoughts and ideas about articles to be written.
In April 2019, I published my first article. Link to article.
Over the last 10 years I would have liked to have made more progress with writing, but now I feel as though I am to the point of “I don’t want to land.”
I will continue to write, learning from each article. Building my skills to be a better writer with each iteration.
The Future Roger the Writer
The future Roger will be an improvement over the current Roger the writer. I promise.
