Progress to me means moving forward positively and includes changing something into a better something that benefits everyone equally. If that does not happen, then it is no process or moving backwards.

Political Progress

Setting equal ground rules that apply to every citizen and businesses of this the country and fairly collecting taxes from citizens and business to funds to run the government is the mandate.

Providing benefits to any elected official is against pure good judgement. There was a time when elected officials could benefit from insider trading information. They had to file a report, and not tell anyone, family, friend, or someone who can help fund the electing of them into office. In theory, that is.

The political landscape has toggled left then right over the years, then left, then right, never achieving a middle position politically that would server everyone’s interest. Or at least provide a balance equality to all, those on the left, the right, and those in between.

This picture captures what may think of the political systems of today.

Social Progress

Harvard Business School defines and Social Progress Index as

“Social progress is defined as the capacity of a society to meet the basic human needs of its citizens, establish the building blocks that allow citizens and communities to enhance and sustain the quality of their lives, and create the conditions for all individuals to reach their full potential.”

All I can say is we are far from the goal of equality. We do not have a goal and plan on getting there and that is the first problem.

Combine that with no one being help responsible or accountable, do not forget consequence for not meeting objectives and goals.

Still dependent on oil.
